CVWA Jacaranda Exhibition and Woodcraft Competition

Each year, as a part of the Jacaranda Woodcraft Exhibition, the CVWA conducts its Woodcraft Competition. The competition covers categories that showcase the wide range of wood craft skills. The competition is open to all CVWA members and to members of the wider public. In past years, the event has been supported by members of neighbouring wood working clubs.

The competition categories have been changed over the years to reflect the broad interests of the club members. In 2026, entries may submitted in the following categories:

Class 1 – Furniture An item of furniture in any timber. Furniture is considered ti include a free-standing or hanging article used in a house or room, such as a table. chair, bed, mirror, cabinet, desk, etc

Class 2 – Item of Jacaranda Any item of any construction that is predominately made of Jacaranda timber. The item may be decorative or functional.

Class 3 – Turned Article This includes an article in any timber which is predominately turned on a lathe. Items which include elements of carving or other decoration may be included.

Class 4 – Small Piece A small item made in any timber using any construction. For reference, a small item should fit in a typical shoe box.

Class 5 – Box A box of any construction. For reference, a box should include a lid that may be opened or closed and should be constructed to enclose one or more items or materials.

Class 6 – Functional Object An object of any timber and construction which has a definite function. This may include musical instruments, toys, games, tools, utensils and the like.

Class 7 – Decorative Object An object of any timber and construction which is principally decorative. This may include sculptures, intarsia, carvings and the like.

Class 8 – Novice This category is open to current CVWA members who are yet to win a CVWA Jacaranda Competition in any category.

Entries to the competition are free to any current CVWA member. Members of the wider public, including members of other woodworking organisations are welcome to enter Classes 1 to 7, but shall be subject to an entry fee of $10 per item entered. Any exhibitor may only enter one item per class.
